My Bio
I have been doing photography since 2006. It is a passion of personal fulfillment and not a career, but I am endeavouring to develop my passion into a professional skill that I can use in my non-profit career.
My primary specialization is macro, but I also have experience shooting landscapes, activist events and weddings. I am only beginning to dabble in abstract photography.
I have never had any formal training or education, and I intend to continue being only self-taught. Technique is something that can be learned from experience, and expression is too individual and free to be constrained by traditional art education.
I also quite frequently write poetry these days. I sometimes dabble in abstract drawings, though not often anymore.
When not snapping pictures, I'm a Non-Profit Leadership and Management student at Arizona State University, and a volunteer at more non-profits than I can count on one hand.

So, I just bought this.
I've been wanting a DSLR for a looooong time, at least a year - ever since I got to borrow a Canon EOS 40D for a semester and shot a wedding with it (what a heavenly experience that camera was). But, cams are expensive and I used that as an excuse to keep putting it off.
My Fuji is great, but it's not an SLR. (Though honestly you'd never be able to tell by either its outward appearance or its image quality). I'm starting to outgrow it, skill-wise, and have actually been avoiding using it *because* I'm disappointed that it's not an SLR. I also bought it in 2007 and it's starting to show its age.

It's been awhile...

I graduated college in December 2013, and since then it's been a mad whirlwind of jobs and fundraising and marketing and finding my professional niche.
Somehow, I've gotten incredibly lucky in life and I've gotten jobs straight out of college. I work now at a bird habitat and nature preserve right in the heart of downtown Phoenix, Arizona. It's wonderful and the best job I've ever had.
That said, since I have marketing duties as part of my job, I'm expected to bring my camera every day and photograph the events that happen there. It's been a long, long time since I even touched my camera, and now it's part of my job. I don't think I could b
